Grades 7-8 Elite Field Hockey

Players entering 7th or 8th Grade in the fall who are registered for the Stampede Fall Rec Field Hockey program are also eligible to try out for the Stampede Elite Field Hockey Team, a program administered by Alpha Field Hockey Club. The Elite Team is a highly competitive team that plays against other club elite teams in the Maryland Youth Field Hockey League. Players on Alpha Field Hockey Club/Stampede Elite Field Hockey must also be on a traditional rec team.

Practices

Similar to the Rec program, Stampede Elite Field Hockey practices start on or about August 1st and continue through the end of October or beginning of November each year. Practices are typically 1.5 to 2 hours long and are held once or twice per week. Elite practices are in addition to the regular recreational team practice. Elite practices focus on running, advanced stick skills, advanced position skills, advanced field hockey strategy, and team building.

Games

Fall Stampede Elite Field Hockey regular season games are on Sunday afternoons starting the Sunday after Labor Day each year. Stampede “Home” games are usually played on turf or Bermuda grass fields at HCPSS high schools. “Away” games will require some travel (about 45 minutes or less) as we play teams from Carroll County, Hereford County, Baltimore County, and other Howard County teams. Optional opportunities to play in additional Tournaments may be offered to teams, but these come at a nominal additional cost to the players. Elite Players will play 2 games on Sundays: one for their rec team and one for Stampede Elite.

Equipment

Each player must provide a field hockey stick, shin guards, and a mouth guard. Players must bring a water bottle to all practices and games.

Uniform

There is a separate uniform for Stampede Elite. Players chosen for the Stampede Elite team will receive uniform information by e-mail and from the Elite Coach.
